- Applies to
- SiftVeil 0.4 Beta
1. Acceptance
These Terms of Service form an agreement between you and SiftVeil (“SiftVeil”, “we”, “us”). They apply when you install or use the SiftVeil browser extension, create a SiftVeil account, subscribe to SiftVeil Pro, or use this website.
By doing any of those things you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use SiftVeil.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information and forms part of your agreement with us.
2. Eligibility
You must be old enough to enter into a binding contract in your country, and at least the minimum age required to consent to online services where you live, in order to create a SiftVeil account or buy a subscription.
If you are using SiftVeil on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these Terms on its behalf.
3. Accounts
You do not need an account to use SiftVeil’s free local filtering. An account is required for SiftVeil Pro and for features that depend on it, such as preference sync.
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for activity that takes place under your account. Please tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
You must provide accurate account information and keep it up to date. We may suspend or close accounts that are created with false information or used to breach these Terms.
4. Free service
SiftVeil’s free plan provides local feed filtering, site controls, category filters, locally stored preferences, and Provenance Beta where it is supported. Free filtering runs in your browser and remains usable without payment.
The free plan is provided as-is. We may change what the free plan includes as the product develops, and we will not remove the ability to filter locally without saying so.
5. Pro subscriptions
SiftVeil Pro is an optional paid subscription. Pro includes preference sync, Smart Rules, advanced controls and access to future Pro features as they become available.
SiftVeil is in beta. Features may change, and individual Pro features may be added, adjusted or replaced as the product develops. We describe Pro by what it currently does, and we do not sell features that do not yet exist.
6. Billing
Current beta pricing for SiftVeil Pro is £3.99 per month or £34.99 per year. Prices are stated in pounds sterling and are shown at checkout, including any taxes that apply to your purchase.
Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing you authorise us, through Stripe, to charge your chosen payment method for the subscription you selected, including at each renewal until you cancel.
We may change subscription prices. If we do, we will give you notice before a change takes effect for your subscription, and you may cancel before the new price applies.
7. Renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled. A monthly subscription renews each month, and an annual subscription renews each year, at the price and payment method on file, until you cancel.
If a renewal payment fails, we may retry it and may suspend Pro features until payment succeeds.
8. Cancellation
You may cancel at any time to stop future renewals. Cancelling prevents the next charge; it does not end the period you have already paid for.
Your Pro features remain available until the end of the current billing period, after which the account reverts to the free plan. Your local filtering preferences stay in your browser.
Step-by-step cancellation instructions are on the support page.
9. Refunds
Payments for subscription periods that have already begun are generally non-refundable, and cancelling stops future renewals rather than refunding the current period. We do not operate a general money-back guarantee.
Nothing in these Terms affects any statutory cancellation or refund rights you have as a consumer under the law of your country, including rights under UK consumer law where they apply to you. Where the law entitles you to a refund, you will receive one.
If you believe you have been charged in error, contact ThreadConfessions@proton.me and we will look into it.
10. Acceptable use
When using SiftVeil, you agree not to:
- use it for any unlawful purpose, or in breach of the terms of any platform you visit
- attempt to circumvent subscription checks, entitlement validation, or other access controls
- resell, sublicense or redistribute SiftVeil, or share account credentials to give paid features to people who have not paid for them
- interfere with, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to SiftVeil’s infrastructure
- reverse engineer the service except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it
- use SiftVeil to harass, defraud or harm others, or to build products that do
11. Browser and platform compatibility
SiftVeil is a browser extension and depends on your browser’s extension platform. Browser updates, changed extension APIs, enterprise policies or other extensions can affect how SiftVeil behaves.
We do not guarantee that SiftVeil will work on every browser, browser version, device or configuration, or that every feature will be available everywhere.
12. Third-party platforms
SiftVeil is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube, Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook or X, and all trademarks belong to their respective owners.
Those platforms control their own interfaces and change them frequently and without notice. A change can reduce or temporarily break SiftVeil’s coverage of a site. We work to keep up with such changes but cannot promise uninterrupted support for any particular platform or feature.
Your use of those platforms is governed by their terms, not ours.
13. Provenance limitations
Provenance Beta inspects supported media for Content Credentials. It is a best-effort feature and is offered on that basis.
- SiftVeil is not an AI detector and does not claim to identify every piece of AI-generated or AI-edited content.
- The absence of Content Credentials is not evidence that content is human-made, authentic or genuine. Platforms may strip provenance metadata when media is uploaded or transformed.
- Provenance checks may be unavailable, incomplete, skipped or inaccurate, and the feature fails open where it cannot reach a reliable result.
You should not rely on SiftVeil as a sole basis for deciding whether media is genuine, and you should not use it where an incorrect result could cause harm. The full explanation is here.
14. Service availability
Local filtering runs in your browser and does not depend on SiftVeil’s servers. Account sign-in, subscription management and preference sync do.
We do not offer a service level agreement or uptime guarantee for the beta. Server-dependent features may be unavailable during maintenance, incidents, or provider outages, and we may modify, suspend or discontinue parts of the service.
15. Intellectual property
SiftVeil, its software, website, design, documentation and name remain the property of SiftVeil and its licensors. These Terms grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use SiftVeil in accordance with them.
The rules, keywords and preferences you create are yours. We do not claim ownership of them.
16. Feedback
If you send us feedback, bug reports or suggestions, you grant us permission to use them to improve SiftVeil without obligation, restriction or payment to you.
Please do not include passwords, authentication tokens, payment card details or private browsing content in anything you send us — we do not want them, and we ask you not to share them.
17. Disclaimers
SiftVeil is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude implied warranties and conditions, including those of satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
Specifically, we do not warrant that:
- filtering will identify every item that matches your rules, or that it will never affect an item you wanted to see
- any particular category, platform, site or feature will work uninterrupted or without error
- provenance results will be complete, available or accurate
- the service will be free of defects or always available
SiftVeil is a preference tool, not a safety, moderation, parental control or content-verification system. It should not be relied on where failure to filter something could cause harm.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
18. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, and subject to the final paragraph of section 17, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of business, loss of goodwill, or loss of data arising out of or in connection with your use of SiftVeil.
Our total liability to you in connection with SiftVeil in any twelve month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for SiftVeil in that period, or £50.
If you are a consumer, you have legal rights that these Terms do not affect, and this section applies only so far as the law allows.
19. Termination
You may stop using SiftVeil at any time by cancelling any subscription and uninstalling the extension.
We may suspend or terminate access where you breach these Terms, where it is necessary to protect the service or other users, or where we are required to do so by law. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will give notice first.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability and governing law — continue to apply.
20. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as SiftVeil develops. The last-updated date at the top of this page will change when we do.
Where a change materially reduces your rights or increases your obligations, we will take reasonable steps to tell you before it takes effect. Continuing to use SiftVeil after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms; if you do not accept them, you can cancel and stop using SiftVeil.
21. Governing law
These Terms and any dispute arising out of them are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction.
If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections of the law of your country of residence, and nothing here deprives you of the right to bring proceedings where local law entitles you to do so.
